IKEA Round Rock TX: Expanded Store Enhances Home Furnishings Shopping Experience

IKEA, the globally recognized home furnishings retailer, has completed the expansion of its Central Texas location in Round Rock. Originally opened in November 2006, the IKEA Round Rock store has increased in size by approximately 54,000 square feet, bringing the total to around 306,000 square feet. This significant expansion allows the store to offer an even wider selection and greater quantities of its popular home furnishings, directly benefiting customers in the Round Rock and wider Central Texas area. Construction on the expansion began in October 2011, and IKEA successfully maintained store operations throughout the entire process, minimizing disruption for shoppers.

“IKEA is delighted by the success of IKEA Round Rock since we first opened our doors five and a half years ago,” stated Gerd Diewald, the store manager. “This expansion is a direct response to our customer’s needs, designed to significantly improve their overall shopping experience. By increasing our capacity, we can ensure better product availability and further our commitment to offering lower prices.” The increased storage and inventory space translates directly to savings in transportation and logistics, which IKEA plans to pass on to its customers through continually competitive pricing.

To celebrate the completion of the expansion and express gratitude to its loyal customers, IKEA Round Rock hosted a grand re-opening event. On Saturday, June 16th, early bird adult visitors (18+) between 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM were greeted with mystery envelopes containing gift cards valued from $10 to an impressive $500, or product vouchers. Adding to the excitement, on Sunday, June 17th, IKEA surprised one lucky shopper at checkout by covering their entire purchase amount. The celebration also included special promotions across a wide range of home furnishing products and food items. Festivities commenced on Friday afternoon, June 15th, with a re-launch event that welcomed community leaders and marked the official unveiling of the expanded IKEA Round Rock.

Diewald further commented, “The IKEA Round Rock team was eager to showcase the newly expanded store, and we wanted to share this excitement with the very people who made it possible – our customers. We appreciate their flexibility and patience during the construction, and this celebration is our way of saying thank you for their continued loyalty.”

The nine-month expansion project involved significant enhancements to key customer areas. IKEA Round Rock now features a considerably larger and redesigned Self-Serve Furniture Area, making it easier for customers to collect their flat-packed furniture for same-day takeaway. The popular ‘As-Is’ section has been relocated to a more spacious area, offering even more opportunities for bargain hunters. Customer service areas, including Furniture Pick-Up and Home Delivery, have also been streamlined and improved for efficiency. Notably, the store’s warehouse capacity nearly doubled, expanding from 64,000 square feet to 118,000 square feet. To compensate for parking spaces utilized for the expansion, IKEA constructed a convenient three-level parking structure. Despite the expansion, approximately 1,200 parking spaces remain available on-site, ensuring ample parking for shoppers. The new extension seamlessly integrates with the original building, preserving the distinctive architectural style characteristic of IKEA stores worldwide.

Strategically located just 20 miles north of Austin, IKEA Round Rock occupies 21.5 acres along Interstate Highway 35 at University Boulevard. The expanded 306,000 square foot store, originally opened in November 2006, continues to offer a comprehensive IKEA experience. Inside, customers can explore 10,000 uniquely designed IKEA products, be inspired by 41 diverse room settings, and visualize their dream home in three model home interiors. Families will appreciate the supervised children’s play area, and the 250-seat restaurant provides a welcoming space to enjoy Swedish specialties and classic American dishes. Additional family-friendly amenities include a dedicated Children’s IKEA area within the Showroom, baby care rooms, and conveniently located preferred parking and play areas throughout the store. In the preceding year, IKEA Round Rock introduced a convenient product picking and delivery service and launched the IKEA Family loyalty program, further enhancing customer convenience and value. Looking ahead, IKEA Round Rock is committed to sustainability and has plans to install a solar energy system on the store’s roof this summer.
