Historically known for hosting large group picnics, Castle Rock Recreation Center has evolved to accommodate both drop-in visitors and reservations. Accessing Castle Rock Recreation Center

While there isn’t a shuttle service from the park’s front gate, the walk to the recreation area is a pleasant one. The pool area is a quarter-mile stroll, approximately six minutes, from the entrance. If you’re starting from the Orchard Staging Area, the walk is about half a mile. Consider bringing a wagon for transporting heavier items.

Exploring the Surrounding Area

Castle Rock Recreation Center is part of a vast network of interconnected parklands. Diablo Foothills Regional Park, along with neighboring Mt. Diablo State Park and Walnut Creek Open Space, provide access to over 18,000 acres of open space for hiking, exploration, and enjoyment.

Seasonal Closure for Peregrine Falcon Nesting

Please note that the Castle Rock rock formations are closed annually from February 1st to August 1st to protect nesting peregrine falcons. This closure, while necessary for the preservation of this sensitive species, does not affect other areas within Diablo Foothills Regional Park.
