Originally a country-western themed establishment called GW’s, Rock It Grill rebranded in 1997 and quickly became known for its nightly karaoke, a unique offering in Alexandria at the time. The venue also hosted popular Halloween parties and other events, solidifying its place in the community.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Rock It Grill has reopened its doors with a focus on safety. Karaoke is now offered Wednesday through Saturday, with a plexiglass screen protecting the DJ. Song requests are taken in writing by staff to minimize contact. The pandemic has presented significant financial challenges. Seiss acknowledges struggling with rent payments but has prioritized paying her landlord a portion of the government loan monies received. The restaurant has also diligently followed ALX Promise accreditation guidelines through the Alexandria Health Department, implementing rigorous cleaning protocols and safety measures to protect staff and customers. Seiss emphasizes that Rock It Grill “is not a takeout kind of place,” highlighting the importance of the in-person experience for its patrons.
