RockSalt Grille: A Fresh Catch in Westminster, Maryland

RockSalt Grille, a new Maryland-themed oyster bar, is making waves in Westminster, filling the space formerly occupied by Harry’s. This unique addition to the town promises fresh seafood, a comfortable atmosphere, and an eco-conscious approach.

A Taste of Maryland at RockSalt Grille

Owners Lee and Susan Nardyz bring over 30 years of restaurant experience to their latest venture, RockSalt Grille. Inspired by the lack of authentic Maryland seafood restaurants in their travels, the couple decided to create their own. Their vision: a restaurant showcasing the bounty of the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. The menu features Maryland favorites like an 8 oz. jumbo lump crab cake, a variety of fresh fish and oysters (seasonal selections apply), and Eastern Shore fried chicken. To keep things exciting, the menu will change frequently.

The Nardyzes are deeply involved in the day-to-day operations. Lee works on kitchen appliances, ensuring everything runs smoothly, while Susan manages the restaurant’s errands. This hands-on approach reflects their dedication to creating a truly unique dining experience. Beyond the food, RockSalt Grille embodies Maryland pride. The restaurant features Maryland-themed art, a nod to the state flag in its logo, and a commitment to supporting local communities.

Sustainability at the Heart of RockSalt Grille

RockSalt Grille is committed to sustainability. The restaurant participates in Westminster’s Oyster Stroll, an event promoting oyster restoration in the Chesapeake Bay. They even save their oyster shells to return to the bay, contributing to the ecosystem’s health. Lee emphasizes their commitment to “sustainability, a green kitchen, recycling,” and hopes to earn certification as a green kitchen in the future.

RockSalt Grille: A Welcome Addition to Westminster

Property owner Harry Sirinakis sees RockSalt Grille as a valuable addition to downtown Westminster, filling a long-standing void for a dedicated seafood restaurant. The centrally located restaurant is also conveniently close to McDaniel College. Susan envisions RockSalt Grille as a popular starting point for a night out, before patrons move on to other establishments.

The Nardyzes plan to extend their RockSalt Grille brand, with future locations planned, including one in South Carolina. They are also committed to supporting local teams at McDaniel College and in Carroll County, continuing a tradition from their previous restaurant, Time Outs Sports Grill. With its fresh, locally-sourced seafood, commitment to sustainability, and comfortable atmosphere, RockSalt Grille promises to be a popular dining destination in Westminster. The grand opening is slated for mid-November.
