Initially, I wasn’t completely sold on the Lunar Rock color for the RAV4. Having always favored silver vehicles with tinted windows, this unique hue was a departure. However, the color has really grown on me over time. My real sticking point initially was the interior color choice.
My first encounter was with a 2021 RAV4 Premium in Lunar Rock with the nutmeg interior. On a bright, sunny day, the nutmeg interior was simply not to my taste. It appeared almost orange-toned in the sunlight. Perhaps under different lighting conditions it might look better, and indeed, in online photos, the nutmeg interior seems more appealing.
Fortunately, I located another RAV4 Premium, this one three hours away, and the dealership was kind enough to deliver it. The key difference? A black interior. This was exactly what I wanted and it made all the difference. Plus, this model was $2,000 less expensive than the nutmeg interior version. The reason for the lower price was the absence of the JBL sound system and a couple of other features, which I realized I could live without. In fact, after upgrading the speakers and adding a subwoofer, the stock radio now sounds quite good.
Ultimately, I’m very happy with my Lunar Rock Rav4. Previously, I drove a 2019 Mazda CX5 (cargo space was too small), and before that a 2018 Honda CRV. My other vehicle is a white 2020 Subaru Forester Sport. What drew me to the RAV4 in the end were the Toyota Safety Sense features, particularly the pedestrian and bicycle detection at night, and the smooth 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s a great vehicle that I am thoroughly enjoying.
