The iconic Aerosmith Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida is gearing up for a whimsical transformation. Disney Parks Blog made an exciting announcement revealing that this thrilling attraction will be reimagined with a fun-filled Muppets theme.
For fans of Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the whole Muppets gang, this news is a dream come true. Disney Parks enthusiastically shared, “We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster.” This marks a significant milestone as the first-ever Disney ride dedicated to featuring The Muppets, promising an adventure packed with “laughter, screams and new tunes.” Park visitors can also look forward to a range of Muppets-themed merchandise along Sunset Boulevard, enhancing the immersive experience.
While the exact closure date for the Aerosmith Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and the grand opening timeline for its Muppets makeover remain under wraps, Disney assures there’s still ample opportunity for guests to enjoy the current rock-and-roll experience.
Opened in 1999, the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith has been a high-speed favorite for thrill-seekers. The ride underwent a significant refurbishment earlier in the year, fueling speculations about its future direction. This reimagining answers those questions with a vibrant new chapter.
The decision to bring in The Muppets resonates with Disney enthusiasts who have long advocated for more of these beloved characters within the theme parks. This move also aligns with the success of the recent Disney+ series, The Muppets Mayhem, indicating a strategic expansion of the Muppets universe within Disney’s offerings.
Alongside the Aerosmith Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster transformation, Disney provided an update on the previously announced Monsters, Inc. land, initially unveiled at D23. This new land, a first of its kind dedicated to Monsters, Inc., will feature a suspended roller coaster inspired by the film’s door vault scene, along with shopping, dining experiences, and a brand-new theater show.
To create the immersive city of Monstropolis, the new Monster’s, Inc. land will replace the existing Muppets Courtyard. This area is currently home to the cherished “Muppet*Vision 3D” and popular dining spots like Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano and PizzeRizzo, all of which will be closing to accommodate the exciting new development.
“Muppet*Vision 3D,” a long-standing fan favorite since 1991 and one of the last projects personally worked on by Jim Henson, holds a special place in Disney history. Disney has acknowledged its significance and is committed to preserving Henson’s legacy. “As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future,” the blog post stated, ensuring the spirit of the Muppets remains alive.
This announcement is part of a broader wave of exciting changes at Walt Disney World. Other ongoing reimagining projects include a new Cars-themed land coming to Magic Kingdom and an Encanto-themed attraction planned for Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park, showcasing Disney’s continuous effort to refresh and enhance guest experiences.
