Planning Your Red Rocks Show Trip: Transportation, Parking, and Entry
Getting to and from Red Rocks and navigating the venue itself can seem daunting, but with a little planning, it’s a breeze. Let’s break down everything you need to know to make your Red Rocks Shows experience seamless from start to finish.
Getting To Red Rocks: Your Transportation Options
Forget the rookie mistake of driving yourself every night and struggling with parking and designated drivers. Embrace the expert approach and choose a transportation method that enhances your concert experience right from the start.

Shuttle Services: The Easiest Way to Go
For a hassle-free experience, especially if you plan to indulge in the concert atmosphere fully, shuttle services are your best bet.
- RRX Shuttle: Often available when you purchase your tickets, the RRX Shuttle offers convenient pick-up locations in Boulder, Downtown Denver, and Capitol Hill. Having used this service ourselves, we can vouch for its reliability and ease.
- Bus Party Co: For a fun, social start to your red rocks shows night, Bus Party Co departs from Zepplin Station in RiNo. Becoming a free member unlocks access to bookings, discounts, and even event invites. Our experience with them for a Billy Strings show was fantastic – easy and entertaining!
- Party @ Red Rocks Private Ride: Traveling with a small group? Party @ Red Rocks offers a private ride for up to 7 people, complete with tailgate amenities like chairs, a cooler, Bluetooth speakers, and a host. It’s like your personal pre-party in the North Lot! We loved this option for a My Morning Jacket show; it was incredibly convenient.
- Bus To Show: The veteran of Red Rocks transportation, Bus To Show has been ferrying concertgoers for years in converted school buses. It’s an affordable and reliable option with pick-up points in Denver, Ft. Collins, and Boulder.
Ride-Sharing (Uber/Lyft): Convenience with a Catch
While getting an Uber or Lyft to Red Rocks is usually easy, getting one after the show can be challenging. Expect waits and potential cancellations. Our tip? Head to the designated ride-share pick-up area in the Bus Lot immediately after the encore and connect to Red Rocks’ free Wi-Fi for better service.
Taxis: A Less Popular Choice
Taxis are available, with a cab line near the post office, but they are generally the most expensive transportation option.
Driving Yourself: Parking Like a Pro
If you choose to drive, arriving early is crucial, especially if you want to snag a spot in the coveted Upper North Lot.
Navigating Red Rocks Parking Lots: Upper North, Upper South, and More
Understanding the parking lot layout is key to a smooth arrival and departure.
- Upper North Lot: Our top pick! Arrive early as it fills up quickly. The perks? You get to drive through a tunnel and choose to enter the venue at either the top or bottom. Entering at the top is much easier on your legs, letting gravity assist you to your seats. Limousine parking is also located here.
- Upper South Lot: We’ve only parked here once. Entry from this lot involves a lengthy raised walkway that can feel a bit like herding cattle.
- Lower North Lot: The next best option if Upper North is full. You can easily walk to Upper North or take the stairs down to a venue entrance.
- Lower South Lot: Another early-filling lot, and home to Shakedown Street – the unofficial marketplace for food, drinks, merchandise, and more.
- Bus Lot/Lower South Lot 2: Located south of Lower South, this is where buses will park.
- Roadside Parking: If all lots are full, parking along the road is permitted. Just be sure to park facing the correct direction for an easier exit.
- Box Office/Will Call: Accessible from I-70 exits 1 & 2. Morrison Road entrances (3 & 4) are less convenient. Buses often stop at Will Call for ticket pick-up.

Venue Entrances and Seating: Finding Your Perfect Spot
For the easiest venue access, especially from the Bus Lots or Lower South, use the Lower South entrance. Walk past the Trading Post until you see a large staircase – this is your gateway. It’s also the quickest exit after the show. When facing the stage, this exit is on the bottom left.
Red Rocks is a workout! From top to bottom, it’s a 100-foot elevation gain at 6,450 feet above sea level. Take your time navigating the stairs.
Seating Options:
- General Admission (GA): First-come, first-served seating. Arrive early to snag your preferred spot. GA is typically in the very bottom and top sections, with reserved seating in the middle.
- Reserved Seating: If you have assigned seats, don’t be shy about asking anyone in your spot to move – they may not realize it’s reserved.
- Standing Room: In lower GA sections, expect to be close to other concertgoers, often two rows deep. Higher up, you’ll have more space. For more room and proximity to the stage, consider VIP tickets.
- View from the Top: While sound can be slightly affected by wind higher up, the panoramic views are incredible. If you’re attending red rocks shows for the first time, experience the view from both the lower and upper sections.
- Arriving Early for Best Seats: For GA shows, aim to arrive around 3 pm for 5 pm gate openings. For the best lower seats, enter via the south entrance from the Upper North Lot. For reserved seating and a good spot, the top entrance is easier for descending to your seats.
Venue Amenities: Museum, Bathrooms, and Concessions
Red Rocks offers more than just music; explore its unique amenities to enrich your visit to red rocks shows.
The Red Rocks Museum: Located at the top of the venue, the museum is a must-visit. Discover the geological history of Red Rocks and its incredible musical legacy. Did you know the steps were built during the New Deal era? The museum features memorabilia from famous performers and rotating exhibits. It’s also a great place to escape rain or cold and has restrooms and concessions.
Restrooms: Bathrooms are located in all four corners of the venue. Secret tip: find the less crowded, co-ed bathrooms on the bottom right side (when facing the stage), past the concession stands and down a small staircase.
Concessions: Red Rocks’ food is surprisingly good! Enjoy pizza, cheesesteaks, hot dogs, and more. The top of the venue has the widest selection.
- Cashless Venue: Red Rocks is cashless. Consider using the Red Rocks App to order in advance and skip the lines for drinks – a real game-changer!
- Drink Limits & Options: Alcoholic drinks are limited to two per purchase. Full bars are at the top and bottom left of the venue. Try the famous vodka lemonade, found at both locations.
- Water: Bring a refillable water bottle and use the water fountains – avoid the sink water.

VIP Experience and The Tunnel
VIP Perks: Splurged on VIP? Enjoy a roped-off dance area, typically near the sound booth, and access to the VIP room in the tower. The VIP room offers a private bathroom and shelter from the elements, though the show view isn’t ideal from there.
The Tunnel: For a truly unique experience, those with all-access passes might get to walk “The Tunnel” beneath the stage. This backstage crew tunnel is signed by nearly every artist who has performed at Red Rocks – a truly special sight!

Weather at Red Rocks: Always Be Prepared
Red Rocks weather is notorious for being unpredictable. Our number one rule for red rocks shows? Always bring a rain jacket!
A cloudy sky over Red Rocks Amphitheatre, indicating potential rain
Rain is likely (90% of the time, it feels like!). Showers can be brief or last the entire set. Check the weather for Morrison, not Denver, as they can differ significantly. Even if it doesn’t rain, temperatures drop after sunset, and wind can pick up.
Rain Jacket is Essential: Seriously, bring a rain jacket. If you forget one and it monsoons, ponchos are sold at concessions, but they may be inaccessible if the venue temporarily closes due to severe weather (which does happen!). We’ve experienced rain delays and even venue closures due to weather, so preparedness is key. Layers are your best friend in Colorado’s ever-changing climate.
What to Bring to Red Rocks Shows: Your Essential Checklist
Packing smart is crucial for comfort and convenience at red rocks shows.
Red Rocks Essentials:
- Rain Jacket: (Yes, we’re saying it again!)
- Refillable Water Bottle: Stay hydrated.
- Sweater or Warm Layer: Even in summer, evenings get chilly.
- Camera: Capture those unforgettable moments.
- Comfortable Shoes: You’ll be doing a lot of walking and stair climbing.
- Portable Charger: Keep your phone powered up.
- Hat: Adds warmth and comfort.
Bag Policy 2024: Note the updated bag policy: No backpacks. Opt for single-pocket bags or clear bags (max 13” x 15” x 8”), small purses/fanny packs (6″ x 9″ or smaller), or hydration packs (2L or smaller). A reusable zippered cooler bag works well for carrying jackets and essentials and can be placed under your seat.
