This week marked the culmination of our exciting Vacation Bible School (VBS) adventure at Breaker Rock Beach! Inspired by Romans 12:2, “Do not be conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect,” our week was dedicated to understanding unwavering truth in a world of shifting sands. Join us as we recap the key lessons learned each day at Breaker Rock Beach VBS.
Day One: Discovering God as the Source of Truth
On our first day at Breaker Rock Beach, we anchored ourselves to the foundational truth: God is the ultimate source of truth. In a world that constantly bombards us with conflicting messages and ever-changing opinions, it’s vital to recognize that true north comes from God. While the world may try to redefine right and wrong, and encourage behaviors that stray from God’s path, we learned that God’s word remains steadfast and unchanging – like a solid rock amidst shifting sand.
We explored the powerful words of Psalm 119:160, which declares, “The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.” This verse served as our guiding light, reminding us that God’s truth is not subjective or fleeting, but eternal and absolute. At Breaker Rock Beach, we emphasized that in a world claiming “your truth” versus “my truth,” God’s truth stands firm for everyone, always.
Day Two: Trusting God’s Perfect Plan
Day two at Breaker Rock Beach VBS focused on the wisdom of trusting God’s plan above all else. We delved into the inspiring story of Daniel from the Bible. Daniel, living under the rule of a king, respectfully stood firm in his convictions to honor God’s ways, even when it differed from the king’s decree. His courageous decision to refuse food that contradicted God’s law, and his proposal for a simple test of vegetables and water, powerfully illustrated that earthly authority does not supersede God’s divine guidance.
This narrative highlighted a crucial lesson: true direction and wisdom come from God, not from worldly power. Just as Daniel trusted God’s plan, we discussed the importance of seeking God’s will in our own lives, even when faced with personal desires or fatigue. Using relatable examples, we showed how choosing God’s way, even when challenging, ultimately leads to greater well-being and aligns us with His perfect plan. We reinforced the timeless wisdom of Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Day Three: Recognizing the Universal Need for Jesus
“Everyone Needs Jesus” was the powerful message of day three at Breaker Rock Beach VBS. We engaged with the story of the rich young ruler from Mark 10:17-27. Through interactive games and storytelling, the children explored the complex relationship between possessions and faith. We learned that while material blessings can be part of life, our perspective and utilization of these blessings are what truly matter in God’s eyes.
The core message was clear: regardless of our earthly wealth or lack thereof, a relationship with Jesus is the ultimate treasure. We focused on the impactful verse Mark 10:25, where Jesus explains the difficulty for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God, illustrating that material wealth can sometimes become a barrier to spiritual richness. Ultimately, we emphasized the universal truth of Romans 3:23-24: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,” underscoring that everyone, regardless of background, stands in need of Jesus’s saving grace.
Day Four: Jesus – The Singular Path to Salvation
Our final day at Breaker Rock Beach VBS culminated with the essential message: “Jesus is the Only Way.” We addressed the common misconception that there are multiple paths to heaven, or that simply being a “good person” is sufficient. We clarified the fundamental Christian belief that salvation is exclusively through Jesus Christ. We discussed how, despite our best efforts, human goodness falls short of God’s perfect standard. It is not our good deeds that earn salvation, but rather God’s grace received through faith in Jesus. Our good works, we learned, are a result of our faith, not the foundation of it.
It was truly inspiring to witness the children enthusiastically respond “Jesus!” to questions and actively participate in the day’s lessons. We highlighted the powerful declaration in Acts 4:12: “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” This verse firmly establishes Jesus as the unique and indispensable path to salvation.
Even as adults, reflecting on these lessons from Breaker Rock Beach VBS provides profound reminders of the core tenets of our faith. The entire week at Breaker Rock Beach was uplifting and deeply encouraging! Thank you for your prayers and support throughout this impactful VBS week. ❤️
