Big Rock Campground welcomes visitors seasonally from May 1st through the third Sunday in October. Please note that the campground is currently closed for the season, but you can start planning your next camping adventure now! Online reservations are mandatory and payable by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover). Mark your calendars: online reservations for the 2025 season will open on April 1, 2025, at 9 a.m. Central Time. For all campsite bookings, check-in time begins at 3 p.m., and check-out is at 12 p.m. Big Rock Campground boasts a total of 109 campsites, catering to various camping styles:
- Improved Campsites: The campground features 96 improved vehicle campsites. These sites are equipped with modern amenities including 50/30/20-amp electrical service, convenient water access, designated parking pads, and fire rings for cozy campfires.
- Primitive Campsites: For a more traditional camping experience, choose from 9 primitive, tent-only sites. These sites offer a back-to-nature feel without electric hookups, perfect for those seeking a simpler outdoor stay.
- Equestrian Campsites: Horse lovers will appreciate the four equestrian campsites available. These sites combine the amenities of improved campsites with features tailored for campers with horses, providing a unique camping experience.

Big Rock Campground offers competitive and reasonable camping fees, with special rates for Kane County residents:

- Nonresidents: $41/day
- Primitive Campsite:

- Dump Station (for non-registered campers): A dump station is available for a flat fee for those not registered within the campground.

- Firewood: Firewood bundles are available for purchase at the Campground office for $10 per bundle. Alternatively, outside firewood is permitted, offering flexibility for campers.

Equestrian Trails and Outdoor Activities
Big Rock Forest Preserve is renowned for its horseback riding area. Explore a network of scenic trails, including natural surface mowed grass paths, limestone screenings trails, and asphalt bike trails (multi-use). Horseback riders are asked to remain on designated, forest preserve-maintained trails to protect the natural environment. Please be aware that trail riding is prohibited in restricted natural areas, Illinois Nature Preserves, picnic areas, and farmed areas. During wet weather conditions, trails may be temporarily closed to prevent damage; check for signage at preserve entrances for trail status updates. Currently, trails are OPEN for equestrian use at Big Rock Preserve.
