This aspiration remained a quiet ember until the fall of 2016, when a drive through the breathtaking Rocky Mountains ignited it into a flame. It was during this journey, cruising through the rugged landscapes in Ethan’s Jeep, that the dream started to take concrete form, specifically around the inspiring model of Red Rocks Church.
The conversation that day revolved around a shared admiration for Red Rocks Church and the powerful impact it was making. As we discussed our appreciation, a bold idea emerged: what if we could bring that same spirit and vision to a new community? The dream expanded beyond simply planting a church to planting a Red Rocks Church. Fueled by this exciting prospect, we decided to take a leap of faith. The plan was audacious – to reach out to Pastor Shawn, the leader of Red Rocks Church, articulate our burgeoning dream, and propose the possibility of extending the Red Rocks family to a new city. We envisioned pitching him the idea of sending us to plant a Red Rocks Church in a location yet to be determined.
Unbeknownst to us, divine timing was at play. Just as we were preparing to make that pivotal call, God was already speaking to Shawn. Before we even had the chance to present our proposal, Shawn reached out to us. In an hour-long conversation that felt divinely orchestrated, he articulated the very idea that had been forming in our hearts – the vision of planting another Red Rocks Church! The alignment was undeniable, and the journey officially began.
The ensuing months were filled with exploration and discernment. We embarked on visits to several vibrant and promising cities, each with its own unique appeal. However, none resonated with us as deeply as Austin, Texas. There’s a palpable energy in Austin, a reason it consistently ranks among the fastest-growing cities in the nation. It’s a city brimming with innovative and inspiring individuals, a thriving culinary scene that tantalizes the taste buds, and of course, the legendary live music that permeates every corner. It took just a single visit to Austin to solidify our conviction – this was unequivocally the city for Red Rocks Church.
Austin has captured our hearts. It’s more than just a location; it has become our home. We are wholeheartedly committed to embedding ourselves in this community, building a welcoming “front porch” – a place of belonging for those who feel disconnected from faith, or simply seeking a spiritual home.
