Red Rocks Country Club: Hole-by-Hole Course Overview
Each hole at Red Rocks Country Club is uniquely designed to challenge and delight golfers, offering a memorable round amidst stunning natural beauty. Here’s a detailed look at each hole of our championship course:
Hole #1 – Dam – Par 4
Yardage: 404 | Handicap: 13 (Men) / 7 (Women)
Hole Description: Your Red Rocks Country Club golf journey begins with “Dam,” a par 4 where strategic play is key. The fairway naturally slopes from right to left, rewarding a tee shot placed on the left side. This positioning provides the optimal angle for your approach to a well-guarded green.
Hole #2 – Double Green – Par 4
Yardage: 421 | Handicap: 11 (Men) / 9 (Women)
Hole Description: “Double Green,” the second par 4, is a dogleg left demanding accuracy. Trouble lurks to the right, so precision is paramount. Your approach shot is uphill to an elevated green, uniquely connected to our expansive 38,000 square foot putting green. Playing to leave your ball below the hole is the wisest strategy for this challenging hole, where par is a commendable score.
Hole #3 – Red Rocks – Par 4
Yardage: 438 | Handicap: 5 (Men) / 1 (Women)
Hole Description: Appropriately named “Red Rocks,” the third par 4 requires focus from the tee. Fairway bunkers guard the left, and out of bounds looms to the right. The approach is equally demanding, protected by bunkers short left and long right of the green. Aiming for the center of the green is a smart and safe play on this challenging hole.
Hole #4 – Gold Rush – Par 3
Yardage: 167 | Handicap: 15 (Men) / 11 (Women)
Hole Description: Our signature par 3, “Gold Rush,” the fourth hole, is visually stunning. Your tee shot appears to descend from the mountain scenery itself. Accuracy is crucial to keep the ball on the green, which is heavily bunkered from front to back on the right side.
Hole #5 – Wagon Trail – Par 4
Yardage: 400 | Handicap: 1 (Men) / 5 (Women)
Hole Description: “Wagon Trail,” the par 4 fifth hole, features dramatic red rock formations that jut into the fairway, narrowing it as you approach the green. Long hitters should be aware of willow bushes that divide the left side of the fairway. An uphill second shot offers some room to the right, but trouble awaits to the left of a narrow, undulating green. This is the most challenging hole for men on the course.
Hole #6 – Volcano – Par 3
Yardage: 159 | Handicap: 17 (Men) / 17 (Women)
Hole Description: “Volcano,” the sixth hole, is a memorable par 3. It requires a precise short iron shot to a small, elevated “postage stamp” green, sitting seven feet above the fairway. Bunkers guard the right, and railroad ties add to the challenge, ready to penalize errant tee shots. Golfers can strategically bail out to the left for a simpler chip onto the green.
Hole #7 – Punchbowl – Par 4
Yardage: 431 | Handicap: 9 (Men) / 15 (Women)
Hole Description: The tee shot on “Punchbowl,” the par 4 seventh, can be intimidating as you must carry a ravine. However, the fairway is generous. Your approach is to a “punch bowl” green, the largest standalone green complex on the course, designed to funnel your ball closer to the hole.
Hole #8 – Meadowbrook – Par 4
Yardage: 441 | Handicap: 7 (Men) / 13 (Women)
Hole Description: “Meadowbrook,” the straightforward par 4 eighth hole, features a fairway sloping from left to right, with bunkers lining the right side. The green is nestled into the hillside, with natural ridgelines influencing ball roll, either guiding it towards or away from the hole.
Hole #9 – Westward – Par 5
Yardage: 597 | Handicap: 3 (Men) / 3 (Women)
Hole Description: The only par 5 on the front nine, “Westward,” the ninth hole, has a newly relocated tee box, positioned furthest east on the property. This dogleg right demands precision off the tee, as bunkers and native grasses extend along the right side. Golfers can choose to go for the green in two or lay up for an uphill approach to a green guarded by four bunkers.
Hole #10 – Double Plateau – Par 4
Yardage: 328 | Handicap: 18 (Men) / 10 (Women)
Hole Description: The back nine at Red Rocks Country Club begins with “Double Plateau,” a risk-reward par 4 tenth hole. This hole introduces a unique “lion’s mouth” style green with a distinctive double plateau.
Hole #11 – Stamp – Par 4
Yardage: 380 | Handicap: 10 (Men) / 6 (Women)
Hole Description: “Stamp,” the short par 4 eleventh hole, brings water into play off the tee, adding a strategic element. A large bunker guards the left front of the green. Aim for the center of the green, which slopes from back right to front left for the best approach.
Hole #12 – Roller Coaster – Par 4
Yardage: 236 | Handicap: 4 (Men) / 12 (Women)
Hole Description: “Roller Coaster,” is actually described incorrectly in the original article. It is the longest par 3 at Red Rocks Country Club, not a par 4. This hole requires a long shot uphill to a large green with complex undulations, living up to its “roller coaster” name.
Hole #13 – Colorow – Par 4
Yardage: 477 | Handicap: 2 (Men) / 8 (Women)
Hole Description: “Colorow,” the challenging par 4 thirteenth hole, stretches out with a wide-open uphill approach. Despite minimal surrounding hazards, this hole demands a long drive and a long iron to reach the green, which slopes away from the mountains to the west. This is the second hardest hole for men on the course.
Hole #14 – Stables – Par 5
Yardage: 627 | Handicap: 8 (Men) / 2 (Women)
Hole Description: “Stables,” our par 5 fourteenth hole, offers a dramatic mountain drop view for both your tee and approach shots. The hole plays entirely uphill to a blind second shot. Native grasses await wayward shots to the left. The green is protected by bunkers and hazards on the left, but golfers are rewarded with views of our neighboring horse stables as they approach the green.
Hole #15 – Thumb Print – Par 3
Yardage: 189 | Handicap: 14 (Men) / 16 (Women)
Hole Description: “Thumb Print,” the recently redesigned par 3 fifteenth hole, features a modified “thumbprint” green complex. This tee shot requires a combination of distance and accuracy, as coming up short is not an option.
Hole #16 – Whale Rock – Par 4
Yardage: 351 | Handicap: 6 (Men) / 4 (Women)
Hole Description: “Whale Rock,” the par 4 sixteenth hole, is a dogleg right, known for the massive rock feature that serves as its backdrop. The green complex has been expanded to allow shots to funnel towards the center, featuring a two-tiered putting surface.
Hole #17 – Hogback – Par 4
Yardage: 356 | Handicap: 12 (Men) / 14 (Women)
Hole Description: “Hogback,” the par 4 seventeenth hole, is the highest point on the course, offering panoramic views of Downtown Denver and the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater. The fairway slopes from left to right, leading to a long, 50-yard green, demanding a precise pitch shot.
Hole #18 – Biarritz – Par 5
Yardage: 534 | Handicap: 16 (Men) / 18 (Women)
Hole Description: “Biarritz,” the closing par 5 eighteenth hole at Red Rocks Country Club, allows golfers to tee off from an elevated box. Your approach is to an elevated, Biarritz-style green, providing a “rollercoaster” effect characteristic of this template hole. Be sure to clear the two cross bunkers on your approach as you conclude your memorable round at Red Rocks.
