David Sumner, a 58-year resident of Rock Springs, Wyoming, passed away at 69 on December 7, 2024, at the University of Utah Medical Center. Born in Williston, North Dakota, on January 27, 1955, to Leonard Thomas Sumner and Betty Jean Davidson, David was a beloved member of the Rock Springs community.
After graduating from Rock Springs High School in 1975, David dedicated 17 years to Sweetwater County School District #1 as a custodian, retiring in February 2020. He was a devout member of Trinity Lutheran Church and actively participated in Alcoholics Anonymous.
Beyond his professional life, David cherished spending time with his family and friends, especially his great-niece, Lucy. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed traveling, and passionately supported the Wyoming Cowboys. He was also deeply involved in his church community, assisting with various duties.
David is survived by his sisters, Sheila Ann Sumner Larsen (Lee) of Puyallup, Washington, and Donna Marie Sumner Eusek of Rock Springs, Wyoming. He also leaves behind four nephews: Drue Johnson (Erin) of Lebanon, Tennessee; Ty Johnson (Heather) of Bonney Lake, Washington; Eli Johnson (Michelle) of Graham, Washington; and Austen Eusek of Rock Springs, Wyoming. His memory is also cherished by three nieces: Sarah Eusek of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Emilee Vander Linden (Brad) of Puyallup, Washington; and Erica Westphalen of Midland, Texas. David’s legacy continues through his 11 great-nieces and nephews: Deven, Ayla, Kaleb, Addy, Isaac, AJ, Lucy, Caden, Jessie, Maxwell, and Lennon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Jim Eusek.
Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rock Springs, Wyoming, on December 16, 2024, followed by interment at the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
