Embracing Faith in Rock Hill: The Calling to Serve
For Pastor Steve, ministry isn’t just a profession; it’s a lifelong calling deeply intertwined with family and faith. Born and raised in Kentucky, his roots run deep in the traditions of community and church. He and his wife, Monieca, share a Kentucky heritage, having attended the same high school. In a remarkable turn of events, Pastor Steve began his pastoral journey at a small mountain church while still a sophomore at Cumberland College. This early commitment to service blossomed, leading him to further theological studies.
He pursued a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. The year 1982 marked a significant milestone as he and Monieca married, building their lives together on a foundation of shared faith as he continued his seminary studies.
From Seminary to South Carolina: Ministry at Bethel Baptist and the Move to Rock Hill
Upon graduating from seminary, Pastor Steve’s path led him and Monieca to Sumter, South Carolina. There, he served as Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church for nearly four years, gaining valuable experience and deepening his commitment to pastoral care.
In 1987, a new chapter began as God directed their steps to Rock Hill, South Carolina, and First Baptist Church. This move marked the beginning of what Pastor Steve describes as an “incredible journey,” filled with unexpected blessings and opportunities to serve the Rock Hill community. His tenure at First Baptist Church in Rock Hill has been a testament to his enduring faith and leadership.
A Lifelong Passion for Preaching and Ministry
Pastor Steve’s personal faith journey began during his sophomore year of high school. Attending a Monday night revival service on a church bus proved to be a transformative experience. As he often says, “my life hasn’t been the same since.” This encounter ignited a passion for ministry that has defined his life’s work.
By his junior year of high school, he was already preaching at youth rallies. Remarkably, at the young age of 19, he became a Pastor. Now, over four decades later, his enthusiasm for sharing God’s word remains as strong as ever. His long-standing service reflects a deep-seated commitment to his calling and the congregations he serves.
