Rock Lititz offers a comprehensive 4-day Rigger Boot Camp designed for entertainment riggers in the live event industry. This intensive program, earning participants 24 ETCP renewal credits, provides hands-on training and practical application of rigging techniques.

This boot camp focuses on practical skills and knowledge essential for entertainment riggers. The curriculum builds progressively, culminating in team-based practical exercises on the final day. The course costs $595, with a $50 discount for ETCP certified technicians and IATSE members. Contact [email protected] for discount details.

Days 1 & 2: Mastering Rigging Fundamentals at Rock Lititz

The first two days at Rock Lititz delve into the core tools and techniques of rigging:

Rigging Hardware Inspection and Application

Participants learn to identify, inspect, and properly utilize common rigging equipment found in the entertainment industry. This foundational knowledge ensures safe and effective rigging practices.

Truss Inspection According to ANSI E1.2-2021

Rock Lititz training emphasizes safety. This section covers regular and annual aluminum truss inspections based on the ANSI E1.2-2021 standard, using tools common in both work site and shop settings.

Electric Chain Hoist Operation and Maintenance

This module provides hands-on experience with CM Lodestars & Prostars, covering safe handling, operation, and relevant regulations. Activities include setting travel limits, brake adjustments, electrical cord and chain replacement, inspections, and troubleshooting.

Essential Knots, Bends, & Hitches for Rigging

This section explores essential knots, bends, and hitches vital for daily rigging tasks. Beyond simply tying knots, the training emphasizes their practical application in real-world rigging scenarios.

Mechanical Advantage Systems for Enhanced Lifting

Participants learn to amplify lifting power using mechanical advantage systems. The course explores simple, compound, and complex systems, with hands-on practice building and operating them using equipment at the Rock Lititz facility.

Wire Rope Fundamentals: Selection and Termination

This module covers wire rope identification, selection, and safe termination techniques. Hands-on activities include crimping, reeving splices, Flemish eye creation, and the proper use of wire rope clips.

Day 3: Rigging Math 101 at Rock Lititz

Day 3 at Rock Lititz focuses on crucial rigging calculations:

Practical Application of Rigging Formulas

Combining classroom learning with hands-on exercises, this workshop teaches fundamental rigging math using standardized formulas aligned with the ETCP Rigging – Arena exam. Students apply learned formulas to a real truss structure with loads, then compare their estimations with load cell readings. Topics include:

  • Uniform and point loads on determinate and indeterminate structures
  • Cantilevered loads
  • Bridle dimensions and forces

Day 4: Safety and Practical Rigging at Rock Lititz

The final day emphasizes safety and real-world application:

Fall Protection Authorized User Training

Addressing the leading cause of worker fatalities, this training covers fall protection regulations, standards, and equipment. Practical exercises and hands-on activities reinforce safe practices. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own equipment and participate in climbing, work-at-height activities, and a team rescue.

Safe Rigging Techniques: Real-World Application

This culminating session integrates all learned skills, guiding participants through building and using various rigging assemblies for safe attachment to truss and structures. Real-world scenarios are simulated, applying knowledge to practical applications. For examples, see: https://youtu.be/SFXz7tPZ9jg
