Who Can Reserve the Spirit Rock?
Reservations are exclusively available to Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and official university departments. This ensures that the Spirit Rock remains a platform for recognized groups within the Wayne State community to communicate with the broader student body. RSOs must have their reservation requests approved by a listed officer on their organization’s roster within the Get Involved platform.
Spirit Rock Reservation Process
To secure a slot for painting the Spirit Rock, eligible groups must make reservations at least seven (7) days in advance. The reservation process is facilitated through SignUpGenius, an online platform designed for scheduling and event sign-ups.
Reservation Duration and Painting Guidelines
Each reservation period for the Spirit Rock spans 48 hours. The reservation officially commences at 9:01 p.m. on the evening before the reserved date. For example, if an organization reserves the rock for October 13th, they can begin painting at 9:01 p.m. on October 12th. The reservation concludes at 9:00 p.m. on October 14th.
Painting is permitted during specific hours: from 9:01 p.m. to midnight on the first night, and then from 7:00 a.m. through midnight on the day of the reservation. Painting is strictly prohibited between midnight and 7:00 a.m. to minimize disruption during overnight hours.
It’s important to note that multiple consecutive reservations are not allowed, and groups are limited to one reservation per calendar month. The purpose of reserving the Spirit Rock is to repaint it with a new message or design. Reservations cannot be made simply to prolong the visibility of an existing message.
Furthermore, the reservation is specifically for painting the rock. If a department or organization wishes to host an event in conjunction with painting the rock, a separate reservation for Gullen Mall itself is required. The Spirit Rock reservation solely covers the use of the rock for painting.
