Choosing Your Starved Rock Cabin: Sunset vs. Pioneer

Starved Rock Lodge offers two distinct cabin experiences: Sunset Cabins and Pioneer Cabins. Each offers its own charm and amenities, ensuring a perfect fit for your needs.

Sunset Cabins: Cozy and Convenient

The Sunset Cabins are perfect for those seeking convenience and modern comforts. Located on the west end of the property, these cabins offer easy access to hiking trails right outside your door. They are arranged in quads, with four individual private guest rooms per cabin, each featuring its own entrance and bathroom.

  • All the amenities of the lodge rooms
  • Mini fridge and microwave
  • Options for king or full-size beds
  • Wood-burning fireplaces in king bed cabins
  • Benches outside for enjoying the natural surroundings

Sunset Cabin King: This cabin offers a spacious king-size bed, a wood-burning fireplace, and a relaxing ambiance perfect for a romantic escape. It accommodates up to two people and offers 235 square feet of space.

Sunset Cabin Full Bed: Ideal for solo travelers or couples, this cabin features a full-size bed and provides a cozy retreat. It accommodates up to two people in 155 square feet of space.

Pioneer Cabins: Rustic and Secluded

For a true “cabin in the woods” experience, choose a Pioneer Cabin. Located 150 yards from the lodge, these standalone cabins offer a secluded escape immersed in nature. While they lack TVs, encouraging a digital detox, guests can borrow board games from the front desk.

Pioneer Cabin Amenities:

  • Mini fridge and microwave
  • Dog-friendly options available (restrictions apply)
  • Options for double queen beds or two-room family suites

Pioneer Cabin Double Queen: This cabin features two queen-size beds and is perfect for families or groups of friends. It accommodates up to four people and is 195 square feet. Notably, this cabin type allows dogs with certain restrictions.

Two-Room Family Pioneer Cabin: Ideal for larger families or groups, this spacious cabin offers two rooms: one with a king-size bed and electric fireplace, and another with two full-size beds. It features two bathrooms and accommodates up to six guests (with an option for a seventh guest with a rollaway bed). It offers 390 square feet of space.

Built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, these authentic log cabins retain their historic charm with knotty pine paneling and rustic details. Whether you choose a Sunset or Pioneer Cabin, you’ll enjoy a relaxing retreat surrounded by the natural beauty of Starved Rock State Park. Check-in is guaranteed at 4 pm, and check-out is at 11 am. Please note that housekeeping will not enter your room during your stay. Contact the front desk for assistance. No cooking is allowed in the cabins.
