The Round Rock Police Department is deeply committed to fostering community responsibility among its youngest residents. Every summer, the department proudly hosts the Junior Police Academy, a free week-long day camp designed to build stronger bonds between law enforcement and the youth of Round Rock. This unique program offers an exciting glimpse into the world of police officers, right here in Academy Round Rock.
Modeled after the rigorous training of a real law enforcement academy, the Junior Police Academy in Round Rock provides a dynamic and engaging curriculum. Campers participate in physical training exercises, including navigating obstacle courses, practicing marching drills, and learning the basics of rappelling. A highlight for many is the chance to explore police vehicles, from patrol cars to SWAT vehicles, and get up close with K-9 units and even a police helicopter.
Beyond the exciting hands-on activities, the Academy Round Rock program emphasizes important educational components. The curriculum covers critical topics such as traffic safety, criminal investigations, and vital alcohol and drug prevention education. Participants also gain valuable self-defense skills, empowering them with knowledge and confidence. To broaden their experience, the Junior Police Academy also organizes local field trips, connecting classroom learning with real-world scenarios within the Round Rock community.
